‘Framework of the deal agreed’ for Aston Villa summer transfer

Matt Targett's permanent transfer to Newcastle United is inching closer. That's according to inews who say te 'framework of a deal' has been agreed with the defender's parent club Aston Villa.

Targett has done extremely well since moving to St James' Park on loan in the January transfer window, playing every game for which he has been available and helping the club escape the relegation mire.

Speaking after the Toon's victory over Leicester City earlier this month Targett was asked about his future and he said: "I am sure and hope they can sort something out for me. For sure (decision time) is coming closer so, at the moment, I am really enjoying my time here and loving playing in front of the Geordie fans."

United manager Eddie Howe welcomed those comments but was not shocked by them, saying: "I'd be surprised if there was any other feeling from him because he’s looked so happy and settled in well. There are still games to play this season and opinions to be fully formed but I think he’s done very well. He’s fitted into the team and the group very well. He’s been very consistent with his performances.

"You look at the winning goal we scored on Sunday, Matt was at the beginning of that move and had the composure to not kick the ball out of play, deal with the defensive situation first then have the quality to find Joe Willock. He’s done very well and we’re very pleased with him."

To such an extent that the inews reckons the outline of a summer move has been agreed upon, meaning Targett's Villa career could be about to end after there years - and just 12 months after named Villa's Players' Player of the Season for 2020/2021. In all he has played 89 times for Villa and a total of 137 Premier League matches.
