Four things that would happen at Man United if Pep Guardiola leaves Man City for England

Like most of the Premier League, Manchester United will be keeping a keen eye on what transpires with England's search for the successor to Gareth Southgate.

For United, there is perhaps vested interest as to who enters the Wembley dugout considering one of the contenders is Thomas Tuchel - a man who has been consistently linked to Old Trafford in recent months. The other top contender is Pep Guardiola who has overseen a reign of dominance at Manchester City.

Should it be Guardiola who takes on the coveted England job, there is likely to be a seismic reaction across the top flight. While there are no guarantees that the Catalan coach will make the switch to international football at the end of the season, MEN Sport has taken a look at four things that could conceivably happen at United if he did.

Almost immediately after Guardiola signs on the dotted line with the England national team, expectations at United would rise. Currently there is an acceptance that City will just win the Premier League due to the immense track record they have.

However, many feel that Guardiola's presence and relentless personality drive the standards at City to ensure they are consistent in the Premier League year in, year out. The expectation will be that with him gone, United will be expected to fill the power vacuum even if recent years have not been kind to the Reds.

While expectations for United may rise, the club would likely benefit from the fact the margin of error will almost certainly increase. The prediction is that City will enter a period of transition following the departure of Guardiola and as such their insane points
