Former Tonbridge Angels and Maidstone United midfielder Devonte Aransibia has died aged 26 | The footballer started his career at Norwich City
Former Tonbridge and Maidstone footballer Devonte Aransibia has died at the age of 26.
Tributes have been paid to the midfielder, who started his career at Norwich City, and also played for Welling.
“It’s devastating news,” said Tonbridge manager Jay Saunders.
“Devonte was just a good person and a very good footballer.
“He was a quiet lad but a real nice kid. I’m just gutted for his family and everyone involved. I’m truly gutted.
“You spend quite a lot of time with these lads and get to know them personally and it’s devastating news when you hear something like that.
“He always looked so happy. When he was scoring goals, the smile on his face, I can picture it.
“When he first came in, he was a very quiet lad, he kept himself to himself, and once he came out of his shell he was a massive player for us and a massive part of everything we did.”
Tonbridge chair Sophie Purves added: “Everyone at Tonbridge Angels is utterly devastated by the tragic news of Devonte’s death.
“He was such a strong, talented footballer and a sensitive young man.
“We are grateful to have had the opportunity to have known and worked with him and he’ll never be forgotten.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Devonte’s family and friends at this dreadful time.
“We thank our club chaplain, Neil Durling, for all the support he is giving to everyone at the club. Rest in peace Devonte.”
Maidstone director of football Bill Williams said: “We are shocked and saddened by the news of Devonte’s passing.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at what will be an incredibly difficult time for them.
“Although Devonte was only with us for a relatively short time, like all players past and present, he was welcomed into the Maidstone United family
