Former Sheffield Wednesday star Michael Hector released by Premier League-bound Fulham

Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Michael Hector will be searching for a new club this summer. The 29-year-old, who won the Owls' player of the year award in the 2018/19 season, is to leave Fulham at the end of June.

Fresh from winning the Championship title, the Cottagers have also confirmed Cyrus Christie, Fabri, Alfie Mawson, Jean Michaël Seri, Timmy Abraham, Jacob Adams, Eric Ameyaw, Xavier Benjamin, Tyler Caton, Jerome Opoku, Jonathon Page, Julian Schwarzer and Jaylan Wildbore will leave the club next month. Highly-rated forward Fabio Carvalho will move to Premier League giants Liverpool on July 1 after turning down a contract extension.

Jamaican international Hector leaves Fulham with two promotions to his name. He played every minute in the second half of Fulham's 2019/20 campaign as they secured an extra-time win over Brentford in the Championship play-Off final at Wembley.

League One promotion prediction made as Sheffield Wednesday aim to put play-off woe behind them

But Hector, who made 37 league appearances in his Hillsborough stint, has found game time hard to come by in recent years. The 29-year-old started just seven times across all competitions for the Cottagers last term. His final outing came in their 4-0 thumping at Sheffield United on the final day of the season.

Hector has played for 18 clubs in his nomadic career, including Reading (twice) and Hull City.
