Former Sheffield Wednesday hero Fernando Forestieri sparks wild celebrations with 111th-minute screamer

Fernando Forestieri sent his side Johor Darul Ta'zim top of the Malaysian Super League with a 111th-minute screamer in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The former Sheffield Wednesday favourite joined the Malaysian side in January and has since scored four goals in five Superleague games - including the incredible last-gasp winner against Negeri Sembilan.

The strike - which can be seen here - sent the away end of the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium into rapture, and pulled JD Ta’zim up to top of the league, a point above their hosts after five wins from five.

The now 32-year-old spent five seasons at Hillsborough, scoring 40 goals and racking up 18 assists in 134 games. He quickly became a fan favourite among Owls fans for his magical moments, winning the club’s Player of the Year award in his first season.

Forestieri left Sheffield in 2020, returning to Udinese where he’d previously spent four years being loaned out to various places - this time he managed just four goals in 28 games before being released by the club in December 2021.

That triggered a move to Asia, joining Malaysian giants Johor Darul Ta'zim on a two-year contract.

And Forestieri looks to be enjoying himself over there, with nine goals in 12 games in all competitions.
