To say Jaden Brown has a big point to prove when Sheffield Wednesday's players report back for pre-season training in a couple of weeks time would be a massive disappointment. The former Huddersfield Town man failed to impress in his first season at the League One club.

Brown struggled to build on a promising start to life at Hillsborough. The 23-year-old featured in four out of their opening five league matches. His attacking play caught the eye down the left flank.

But Brown lost confidence and at no point did Owls boss Darren Moore give him an extended run in the side. When Brown was given opportunities to make an impact, he did not seize the moment and, consequently, fell down in the pecking order.

With Brown's skill-set, he ought to have been tailor-made for the left wing-back role. He is a quick, athletic, energetic player. Yet time and time again Brown was caught out defensively.

Managers want reliability with players and for them to be able to carry out a game plan to a tee. Moore turned to Marvin Johnson rather than Brown to produce the goods at left wing back. To Johnson's immense credit, he acquitted himself well and made the position his own from Christmas onwards.

Brown went off the boil and has barely had a look in this calendar year. His last Owls outing came as a late second half substitute at Oxford back in January.
