Former Rangers star makes shock retirement U-turn to join lower league side

Former Rangers and Hamilton Accies star David Templeton has made a shock retirement U-turn after signing for West of Scotland League side Drumchapel United.

The 33-year-old hung up his boots in November last year when he called time on his Accies stint following persistent injury issues.

However, the striker has been missing the game and will now return to action next season in the West of Scotland League with Drumchapel.

His signing was announced on the club's social media page last night, with United posting: "This man needs no introduction!

"He has played for some teams you may have heard of such as Rangers, Hearts and Hamilton.

"Welcome to the Drum David Templeton."

Templeton started his career with Stenhousemuir before joining Hearts in 2007, where he went on to score a memorable goal at Anfield in 2012 for the Jambos against a Liverpool side containing future Rangers gaffer Steven Gerrard.

He spent four years at Ibrox during the club's climb back up the leagues, winning the Third Division title in 2012/13 and the Scottish League One crown the following season before departing in 2016.

The winger then had two spells at Hamilton Accies in between a stint down south with Burton Albion.

He also briefly played for Raith Rovers.

When Templeton stopped playing at Accies last year he was already working with their under-14s and was looking to launch his own academy.

But now the next chapter of his career awaits at Lochburn Park and there's sure to be a good crowd to see United's new boy in action later this summer.
