Calvin Bassey can fund Rangers transfer spree and '£25m player' proceeds should kickstart forgotten succession plan

Former Rangers star Craig Moore reckons any cash brought in from selling Calvin Bassey should be used bring in a creative attacker.

Bassey is attracting interest from across Europe after an impressive end to the campaign at Ibrox.

He played a pivotal role in Rangers ' Scottish Cup victory and run to the Europa League final, and former boss Steven Gerrard is keen on a reunion at Aston Villa.

Moore reckons that £25million is the starting point for the bidding war, and it can be used to bolster the squad.

He reckons his former side have their defensive requirements covered following the signing of John Souttar from Hearts.

However, the Australian believes another player in the mould of Ianis Hagi is what was missing in the second half of last season following the playmaker's injury.

Moore insists a successor is needed to the Romania cap as he continues his recovery from a nightmare ACL injury.

Moore told The Go Radio Football Show: "Bassey is a £25million player now. That is what is going to cost a club to prise him away from Ibrox.

"If someone comes and spends that type of money, I think we are all realistic enough to understand that is the point they sell.

"I am quite excited by Souttar and Goldson. I feel as if that is a very strong centre-half pairing.

"Lundstram can drop in there, and Sands who I'm still not sure on, because he is very Lundstram like, but he's not at that level.

"Sometimes that just comes on the back of games.

"I think they will definitely be looking for a wide attacking player. I think they are fine on the left, but on the right-hand side they will be looking to strengthen.
