Former Rangers star explains transfer exit and how he was convinced to leave Hibs after 'really surprised' factor

Jamie Murphy says he's been pleasantly taken aback by the standard at League Two Mansfield Town following his deadline day transfer from Hibs.

The attacker returned to the Premiership for the first time since leaving Motherwell with Rangers in 2018, leaving in 2020 for Hibs.

His time at both Rangers and Hibs has been blighted by injury and now heads back down south with Mansfield in English football's fourth tier.

He will remain at the Stags until the end of the season after a deadline day switch, having previously been in England with Sheffield United and Brighton.

Murphy is Motherwell's record European goalscorer and says he aims to hit his top form upon his return to England.

He told IFollow: “It’s brilliant [here]. I was really surprised with the training ground and stuff like that. They are brand-new, great facilities, there’s everything you need here to be a good player.

“There was a lot [that attracted Murphy to join the Stags]. The club is very forward thinking; they want to progress.

"There’s a lot of talent in there, people who work hard and people that are good on the ball. Hopefully I can try and help the club achieve what they want to achieve.

"I’ll go out there and try to do my best, hopefully that’s good enough. There is no secret to it, you work hard and try to enjoy your football and usually performances come."
