Former Rangers star targets football comeback after season out with injury hell as ex-Ibrox colleague 'looking after' ace

Lewis MacLeod says he'll begin the search for a new club after his recovery from a knee injury is complete.

The 27-year-old was released by English League One side Plymouth Argyle in May after a season blighted by the problem he had surgery on last year.

It's ruled him out of this season and is the latest long-term problem for the star from Newmains. He spent 18 months out after a hamstring injury at Brentford earlier in his career.

MacLeod started his career at Rangers and is working on his rehab independently, with assistance from former Rangers physio and colleague Steve Walker. He hopes to make a return to football after his Plymouth spell.

He told Open Goal: "I signed a year contract as I just wanted to play. I got a month into the season and injured the inside of my knee.

"I had scans and nothing was showing up. I tried to play the rest of the season but it was constant pain. I got to the end of the season and knew I needed surgery.

"I have had a lot of injuries so I've took some time away and I've had a wee boy. I've had the surgery and they knew I had torn my deep fibres.

"I've been doing my rehab with Steve Walker. He's been looking after me. I still have pain so I am seeing how it goes. I've been back and forth from London seeing a specialist.

"I'll give it a couple more months then try and get back. Once I get back fit I'll look for a club."
