Former Rangers man Jamie Barjonas: I was due a goal for Hamilton and big win over Annan was coming
Jamie Barjonas insists he was due a goal and Accies were due to dish out a hammering after their emphatic win over Annan Athletic.
The midfielder broke the deadlock inside 90 seconds to set Hamilton on the road to a 5-0 victory, which keeps them unbeaten at the top of League One with rivals Falkirk.
It is his second goal for the club after netting in the SPFL Trust Trophy win over Coleraine last month, but it was his first in the league and a maiden strike at home.
His strike was added to by goals from Reghan Tumilty and Euan Henderson, as well as substitutes Connor Murray and Joe McGlynn.
Barjonas said: “I have been due a goal, to be fair! I’m buzzing to get it and it is a bit of a weight off my shoulders.
“I’ve been keen to get that first goal in the league. Hopefully this is the first of many and I can really take off now.
“A big thing for footballers is confidence. I’m a confident player and I just think in the last couple of weeks I’ve got a couple of assists and now I have a goal, so that just lifts the confidence.
“We’ve got a big squad with a lot of quality and that is what you need if you are going to go and challenge for titles.
“You can see that in our team with boys coming off the bench and getting a couple of goals.
“A thing we’ve been doing during games where we’re dominating and creating chances, is only going in 1-0 up so the gaffer gave us a wee jag at half-time and it has obviously worked.
“In the second half, we improved our performance and took our chances.
“I think we were due a convincing win like that and it was a good performance all round. We know we’ve got quality in the squad. We’ve been creating a lot of chances and just not taking them so it was good to see us be clinical in the second half.
