Former Motherwell and Partick Thistle star leaves Gartcairn manager role

Former Motherwell and Partick Thistle defender Willie Kinniburgh has left his position as Gartcairn manager.

The 37-year-old guided the club to a third-placed finish in West of Scotland Football League Conference B in what was described as a 'bittersweet' placement by the boss.

His side had eyes on the title before the season kicked off but ended up finishing 15 points behind eventual champions Cambuslang Rangers.

Now a hunt for a new manager commences after Kinniburgh's decision to leave the Lanarkshire club.

A short statement reads: "By mutual consent manager Willie Kinniburgh has left the club.

"Thanks to Willie and his back room staff for guiding the club through Covid season and best for the future."

After time as a coach at Partick Thistle, Kinniburgh became Gartcairn boss in 2019.

He started his playing days at Motherwell before spells with Ayr United, Clyde and Partick Thistle, before dropping to junior level at the end of his career.
