Former Albion Rovers and Ayr star is new Gartcairn manager

Former Albion Rovers captain Mick Dunlop has been appointed the new manager of West of Scotland Football League side Gartcairn.

The 39-year-old has replaced ex-Motherwell defender Willie Kinniburgh at the helm after his exit last month.

Kinniburgh - who has today been appointed the new boss at WOSFL rivals Petershill - left the Airdrie club last month after a disagreement with the club hierarchy, in which he accussed them of making a 'sudden change' to their plans for next season.

Dunlop takes charge with Cairn preparing for next season's new-look WOSFL First Division, following a third place finish in what was Conference C this season.

He spent four years with Albion Rovers between 2013-2017 and the defender's previous clubs also include Ayr, Dumbarton Queen's Park, Hurlford and Rossvale.

This will be Dunlop's first management job after spending this season as player/assistant manager at Lowland League Broomhill.

Announcing Dunlop's appointment on social media, a statement from Gartcairn read: "Gartcairn FC are delighted to announce our manager Michael Dunlop.

"Michael was previously was at Broomhill FC.

"We are delighted and excited with the appointment as we look to the future. Welcome to the 'Cairn."
