Bentancur names Conte trait he ‘really likes’; reveals reason for success at Tottenham

Tottenham central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has named the Antonio Conte trait he ‘really likes’ and revealed a major reason for his success in north London.

Bentancur left Juventus in the January transfer window to join Tottenham in a £16million deal. It could rise to £21m if certain conditions are met.

The Uruguay international made the transfer alongside Sweden winger Dejan Kulusevski. And they both seem to be enjoying their time at Tottenham.

Bentancur has gone straight into the midfield under Conte, making 11 Premier League appearances so far.

Kulusevski, meanwhile, is part of a deadly attacking trio which also involves Harry Kane and Heung-min Son. The 21-year-old has registered three goals and six assists in 12 league matches to date.

The pair could prove vital in helping Spurs qualify for next season’s Champions League. They sit fourth after 32 games, having won 18 of them.

Spurs are level on points with local rivals Arsenal but have a superior goal difference, putting them in the last UCL spot.

A win against Brentford on Saturday evening will help their cause. And Conte’s men will be hoping Manchester United can cause Arsenal some problems earlier in the day.

During an interview with the Evening Standard, Bentancur has spoken about one major factor behind his success at Spurs – his fitness.

“No sooner had I arrived I just thought that I need to make an impact,” the 24-year-old said.

“I enlisted the help of Daniel, my fitness coach, who I managed to bring over here as well.

“I knew I would have to be prepared as the English game is so intense and so quick, so end-to-end. I needed to prepare on a number of levels, with my lungs and fitness for the speed of the game.”
