Former Maidstone United manager Hakan Hayrettin named new boss at National League South Dulwich Hamlet

Former Maidstone manager Hakan Hayrettin has landed a new job.

Hayrettin, dismissed by the Stones in January after two wins in 21 matches, was appointed Dulwich Hamlet’s new boss on Thursday night.

In a club statement, Hayrettin said: “I'm excited to be at Dulwich Hamlet.

“The project here is incredibly appealing. We have a committed and passionate fanbase, who have a clear expectation for the club.

“First and foremost though, my immediate focus is this weekend.”

Hayrettin replaces former Margate and Welling United coach Paul Barnes - also once assistant at Ashford United - after a run of nine defeats in 10 fixtures for Dulwich.

Chairman Ben Clasper said: “Hakan has great pedigree at this level, with a track record of success.

“And with the club in its current position and its aspirations for how we feel we should perform at this level, Hakan is best placed to deliver on both fronts.”

Barnes himself had only taken over permanently from long-serving manager Gavin Rose in October.

Hayrettin succeeded John Still in March 2020 at the Gallagher Stadium and delivered the National League South title last season.

He left with the Stones second-bottom of the National League. Since his departure, however, under caretaker manager George Elokobi, Maidstone have remained without a league victory since November and are now at the foot of the table.

After leaving the club, Hayrettin, who counts Braintree, Grays Athletic and Thurrock among his other former clubs, said he could leave with his head held high.

He added: "I leave with wonderful memories that no one can ever take away from me.

"No one can take away that I was the manager that won the club’s first championship in seven years. No one.
