Former Hull City goalkeeper released after just four appearances in five years

Former Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic has been released by Leicester City upon the expiration of his contract. Jakupovic joined the Foxes from City back in 2017 but went on to make just four appearances in five years with the Premier League side.

The one-time capped Switzerland international spent much of his time at the King Power as third choice, behind Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward. However, in a statement released confirming their retained list, Leicester placed on record their thanks for Jakupovic’s impact on the dressing room, and progression of young goalkeepers.

It read: “The 37-year-old goalkeeper joined the Foxes from Hull City in July 2017 and made his debut for the Club in an FA Cup tie at Fleetwood Town the following January. His Premier League bow came against Arsenal in May 2018, as he helped City to a 3-1 win over the Gunners on Filbert Way.

“A valued and popular member of the First Team squad, Eldin has provided vital competition and helped drive high standards in the goalkeeping ranks throughout his time with the Foxes, while also lending his experience to the development of a number of young goalkeepers on the Club’s development pathway.”

Jakupovic has yet made no indications as to what he will do next in his career and at 37, it could be his last move. He was a popular player during his time at the Tigers and with City thought to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, maybe a return could be on the cards.
