Former Hull City, Dover Athletic and Torquay United midfielder Ryan Hanson signs new deal at Tonbridge Angels

Midfielder Ryan Hanson has signed a new deal at Tonbridge.

Hanson impressed at Longmead after joining from fellow National League South club Torquay in February.

The former Hull City and Dover man, 23, looked at his options after being offered fresh terms at the end of last season.

But he stayed in touch with manager Jay Saunders and is on board for the new season after reporting for training on Thursday night.

“To be honest, we’ve been talking all summer but he’s had holidays and things and I’ve been away with the family,” said Saunders.

“He had a few offers on the table which he wanted to look at because he’s always been full-time, so there was that carrot.

“But he enjoyed it here and he’s decided to re-sign. It’s an important time for him.

“He needs a good season and to stay injury-free and I’m sure he’ll kick on again.

“I thought he made a difference to us when he came in last year where we lacked that bit of physical presence and height in there.

“He can play a few positions, he’s played at a good level, he’s captained Dover in the Conference and he’s good in the dressing room.

“I didn’t want to lose him and Jordan Higgs. It was important we kept at least one of them and we’ve done that.”

Higgs was offered a new deal after winning the supporters’ player and players’ player-of-the-year awards but opted for full-time football at Maidstone.
