Former Gillingham and Southampton academy forward Matty MacArthur joins Isthmian Premier side Chatham Town from Enfield Town
Chatham Town have added to their attacking options with the signing of an ex-Gillingham forward.
Ambitious Isthmian Premier side Chatham have signed former Southampton academy winger Matty MacArthur from National South side Enfield Town.
McArthur, 21, was close to breaking into Gillingham’s first team during his spell at the club, but dropped into non-league after a year as a professional, with spells at both Dartford and Tonbridge Angels.
Following his move to Chatham, a club statement said: “He adds great strength in depth to the club's attacking ranks and we extend a warm welcome to the Chats!”
McArthur was born in Australia, starting out with his local side, Western Sydney Wanderers.
He moved to England and played academy football at Southampton before a trial with the Gills led to him being offered an apprenticeship in 2021, which he completed.
He signed professional forms at Priestfield in the summer of 2023, after being heavily involved with the first-team and impressing during pre-season of the previous campaign. Loans followed with moves to both Margate and Sheppey United.
McArthur played in three EFL Trophy games for the Gills at the start of the 2023/24 season, against Leyton Orient, Portsmouth and Fulham under-21s.
The forward moved to Enfield from Farnborough in the summer and has made seven appearances this season.
