Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth looks ahead to League 2 match against Crawley Town at Priesfield Stadium, live on Sky Sports – kick-off 5.30pm

Gillingham’s game against Crawley Town this Saturday could be one for the neutrals.

The Gills boss is expecting a game full of attacking intent from both teams as they take on Crawley Town at Priestfield in a live Sky Sports fixture, which kicks off at the later time of 5.30pm.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth has already cautioned against judging Crawley by their league position and expects the visitors to come at them.

He said: “They are one of the top teams for shots in the opposition box and a possession side, we have to ride the storm with these.

“They are going to come at us, we know that, but we like going at teams as well.

“I’m not sure it’s going to be a nil-nil, there’s definitely going to be some goals, and let’s hope we get the majority of them.”

Crawley are the division’s possession kings, topping League 2’s average stats with 60.3% of the ball in their games this season. They make good use of it too, as the second-best team for accurate passes.

Only Barnet have won more corners than them this season and the visitors rank higher than the Gills on touches in the opposition box and shots on target, although the pair share the same xG (expected goals).

Gillingham came away with the points from the trip to Bristol Rovers last weekend, and Ainsworth will be hoping they build on that success, in what was their first win in six league games.

Ainsworth said: “I want to back up that result in Bristol the other week - back-to-backs are always good in the league - but in no way, shape or form am I thinking this will be an easy game.

“It will be tough, and there’s extra on it, a few of our staff came from Crawley and (their manager) Scott Lindsey is local to the area, so there’s a mix up in there.
