Former Dover Athletic striker Inih Effiong on the mend after collapsing in Dagenham & Redbridge’s 1-0 National League defeat to Maidenhead United

Dagenham and Redbridge have confirmed ex-Dover striker Inih Effiong is “sitting up and feeling much better” after he collapsed during their clash with Maidenhead on Saturday.

The medical teams from both sides treated Effiong on the pitch after the National League match and he was eventually taken by ambulance to hospital.

A statement released by the National League club revealed no underlying condition has been diagnosed after tests on the 32-year-old, who played for Whites from 2018 until 2020, but more tests will follow.

It also confirmed he’s eating normally and thanked Maidenhead defender Kevin Lokko, who captained Effiong while they played together at Crabble, for his assistance.

“The club is pleased to report that, after a night in Wycombe General Hospital, Inih Effiong is sitting up in bed and feeling much better,” Sunday’s statement read.

“Tests undertaken to date have revealed no underlying condition. Inih will undergo further tests today, but he is now eating normally.

“We would like to pass on our best wishes to Inih and his family, who have gone through a very stressful time and wish him a full and speedy recovery.

“We would also like to thank everyone at Maidenhead United and the wonderful medical staff who attended to Inih so quickly after he became unwell.

“In particular their club therapist, Max Bangura and club doctor, Mandip Singh. Also, the response paramedics and the staff at Wycombe General Hospital.

“Not forgetting of course our own Bryony [Woolley, head therapist], who was first on the scene and showed true professionalism throughout.
