Former Arsenal star Mesut Ozil breaks silence following Fenerbahce squad exclusion

Former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has sent Fenerbahce fans a message after he was excluded from their squad.

The former Germany international enjoyed a productive few seasons in north London before he fell down the pecking order during Mikel Arteta 's time as head coach, eventually leaving in January 2020. The Turkish giants then announced on Thursday afternoon that Ozil and former Watford loanee Ozan Tufan have been excluded from the squad.

understands that this is because of a verbal altercation with the club's interim manager Ismail Kartal, with the aforementioned statement translating to: "Our Football A Team players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan were excluded from the squad as per the decision taken. It is announced to the public."

The former Real Madrid playmaker will not be allowed to train with the rest of the first team ahead of their clash against Kayserispor next month. Now, he has taken to social media, posting a picture on Twitter of a Turkish flag beside a Fenerbahce one.

The 33-year-old's tweet translates to: "The main thing is Fenerbahce." Despite his recent controversy, the experienced maestro has enjoyed a productive campaign with the Süper Lig side, notching nine goals and providing a further two assists across all competitions.

He will hope that the situation can be resolved as soon as possible, with his career at Arsenal ending in similar circumstances after Arteta left him out of the club's registered squad for the 2020/21 campaign. During his time at the Emirates Stadium, Ozil scored 44 times, providing a further 77 assists.
