Fofana, Pereira, Justin - Leicester City injury latest vs Arsenal as Brendan Rodgers receives boost

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that centre-back Wesley Fofana will be 'very much a doubt' for this weekend's trip to Arsenal.

The 21-year-old has been closing in on a first appearance of the season in recent weeks, and the City boss remains hopeful that time will finally come in the next seven days.

Fofana has been out of action for more than seven months now after sustaining a broken leg in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal at the King Power Stadium.

A return to training was made last month, and now the next step remains a return to the squad on a matchday.

The plan was for the defender to make his return against Rennes on Thursday night, but a positive Covid test delayed that, with Rodgers earmarking the weekend's clash against Arsenal as a possibility.

But it now however seems that the wait could be a little longer.

"Wesley Fofana is very much a doubt (for Arsenal), but we'll hopefully have him back next week," Rodgers revealed at Seagrave during a pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

"He's a very talented boy, he's come in,a young man who's not played so much, we paid a lot of money for him, relative but we knew his talent but he has come in and has been outstanding, however, he still has a lot of improvements to make.

"He's been really unfortunate with the injury that he has had and he's worked ever so hard to get back, and hopefully, he'll return very soon."

The City boss was keen to stress that Fofana is all OK and now targeting a return back in his homeland next mid-week.

"He's fine, you see lots of cases like it where people without even feeling they had symptoms have tested positive. "He is getting physical work in, and we'll take it from there."
