Floyd Mayweather: Epic Twitter thread highlights why he is a true great

Floyd Mayweather is widely regarded as one of, if not the best boxer we’ve ever seen, retiring with a perfect 50-0 record, it’s hard to argue with that.

While people will argue whether or not he is the best of the best, he’s undoubtedly got to be in the conversation when the topic comes up.

In honour of him being inducted into the hall of fame, @Gmane07 on Twitter has produced a thread going through Money’s career.

He kicked off with a knockout victory over Roberto Apodaca in 1996, just a matter of months after he controversially was denied gold in the Atlanta Olympics.

Two years later, Mayweather challenged Genaro Hernandez in what would be the latter’s last fight. When he died in 2011 from cancer, Money paid for his funeral to show his class and compassion with the boxing family.

After winning the WBC super-featherweight title, he went on to defend it for nine straight fights as well as one against Chico Corrales. Critics were unsure whether or not he would be too ‘scared’ or not to defend his title against him, he proved them all wrong, winning once again via knockout.

His PPV debut came against Arturo Gatti who he dispatched emphatically. Gatti died in 2009 under suspicious circumstances, with his wife being charged with first degree murder. Once again, Mayweather covered the funeral costs for his former opponent.

He then became a four division champion in 2006 when he beat Zab Judah in a match that had everything. There was a controversial no-knockdown in the second round and a riot in the ring after round 10.

It wasn’t just in the ring he was making major moves. Outside of it, he advised HBO to create the TV show ‘24/7’ which won an Emmy and lead to branch off series.
