Flowers left for boy, 14, at centre of Harpurhey murder investigation as community comes together in wake of tragedy

Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene where a 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Harpurhey. Police and paramedics were called to Tavistock Square at around 6pm on Friday evening (September 15) following reports of a stabbing.

The victim was worked on by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to hospital. In the early hours of Saturday, officers confirmed the boy had died from his injuries. A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

At the scene on Saturday morning, officers continued to trawl the square for evidence, with three forensic tents in place. A cordon surrounding a block of closed shops also remains and there is a large police presence in the area.

Members of the community have been leaving flowers in front of the cordon, paying tribute to the teenage boy. A framed photograph and candle are among the tributes.

Harpurhey Neighbourhood Project, community centre in the area, has also posted a tribute online saying the people are ‘in mourning’ following the tragic incident.
