Bayern Munich suffer injury concern ahead of Manchester United Champions League clash

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed an inflamed tendon forced Joshua Kimmich to come off after an hour during Friday evening's 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern conceded late in a dramatic Bundesliga clash against the side who look set to be their main challengers for the title. Leon Goretzka had made it 2-1 to Tuchel's men on 86 minutes but a late penalty allowed Exequiel Palacios to equalise from the spot four minutes into added-time.

Harry Kane had given the home side an early lead before Alex Grimaldo's wonderful equaliser left them searching for a winner. It came as a surprise, then, to see key midfielder Kimmich removed on the hour mark.

"Joshua had an inflamed tendon and we didn't want to take any risks with him," Tuchel said after the game. "The medical team clearly said he could only play 60 minutes and that's why we brought him off in the 60th minute."

The injury will raise doubts as to whether Kimmich will be fit enough to play Wednesday's Champions League group stage opener against Manchester United. Bayern do have a longer turnaround than Erik ten Hag's side, who face Brighton this afternoon, but may not feel their midfielder can complete 90 minutes so shortly after playing an hour.

Matthijs de Ligt adopted the defensive midfield role in Kimmich's absence for the final half-hour potentially offering United a hint as to who could do the same on Wednesday. Tuchel made no secret of his desire to add a No.6 over the summer, with the German side prepared to pay around £60million for Fulham's Joao Palhinha.
