Fleetwood Town boss sends message ahead of key Sheffield Wednesday & Bolton Wanderers clashes

Stephen Crainey believes Fleetwood Town still have their destiny in their own hands ahead of two vital clashes against Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers as they seek to preserve their League One status.

Wanderers host the Cod Army on Saturday in their final game of the season as Ian Evatt's side aim to finish in the top 10 of the division and cap off the campaign on a high after a positive campaign following promotion last season from League Two.

For Fleetwood, however, just staying in League One is the only priority, regardless of final finishing position. The Cod Army are embroiled in a fierce relegation battle at present along with Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon, Gillingham and Morecambe.

Donny and the Wombles appear to have their fates sealed, with Fleetwood ahead of the Gills on goal difference and Morecambe two points clear of the drop zone.

But Fleetwood have a game in hand on their rivals, though they will take on play-offs chasing Sheffield Wednesday this evening at Highbury.

However, following the 1-1 draw against relegation rivals AFC Wimbledon on Saturday when Joe Garner's later equaliser cancelled out Luke McCormick's strike, Fleetwood boss Crainey believes the Cod Army still have their fate in their own hands with six points to play for versus the Owls and the Whites.

He told the club's official website: “The way the results have gone, we will take the point and move on to Tuesday. The remit is to stay above the line, regardless of how we do it, and I’m not too bothered how we stay above it, whether it’s on points or goal difference.
