Emma Raducanu splits with Torben Beltz: Who could her new coach be?

Emma Raducanu has revealed she has split with coach Torben Beltz after just five months. 

The US Open champion started working with Beltz in November 2021 after an extensive search for a full-time mentor. 

Raducanu, who is competing in her first full season on the WTA Tour, has won just four competitive tournament matches this year and now believes a “new training model” is necessary. 

Beltz had previously coached Angelique Kerber and helped the German win two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open in 2016. 

Yet, Raducanu has been unable to maintain the form she showed at the US Open under his tutelage. 

“I want to thank Torben for his coaching, professionalism and dedication over the last half a year,” said Raducanu. 

“He has a huge heart and I have enjoyed our strong chemistry during [our] time together.

“I feel the best direction for my development is to transition to a new training model with the LTA supporting in the interim.”

The LTA’s head of women’s coaching Iain Bates will work with Raducanu in Madrid this week. 

Bates has worked extensively with Raducanu over the years and has described her rise to the top of women’s tennis as “truly remarkable.” 

At this stage, however, it’s unclear if Bates will prove to be a long-term coaching option for the teenager. 

Here are some other names that could be in contention: 

Andrew Richardson 

Richardson has already worked with the Brit, having replaced Nigel Sears as her coach after last year’s Wimbledon. 

The pair enjoyed incredible success together and Raducanu has credited Richardson with playing a vital role in her US Open victory.
