Flahive confirms long-term injury in blow to Cork

Cork will be without defender Kevin Flahive for the rest of the summer after confirmation of a long-term knee injury which occurred during the Munster Championship semi-final loss to Kerry.

Flahive left the pitch in the latter stages of the game with fears of a significant problem.

Scan results have now shown ligament damage and he will miss inter-county and club action in 2022.

He thanked well-wishers on social media as well as confirming he would not play again this season.

Flahive tweeted: "Unfortunately sport can be cruel and that's the end of my year.

"Looking forward to getting over the surgery in the next few weeks and getting back to representing my family, club and county next year."

Goalkeeper Mícheál Aodh Martin had to be substituted in the first half in the other injury blow for Cork during the game.

They are preparing for the qualifiers in what will be a highly-competitive field against the likes of Mayo, Armagh and All-Ireland champions Tyrone.
