Emma Raducanu will play at British tournament in run-up to Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu will return to England to play in front of her home supporters next month at the Birmingham Classic.

This will be the first time she has played in front of a British crowd since she won the US Open back in September.

The 19-year-old will start her preparations for Wimbledon at the grass tournament when she makes her debut at the Edgbaston Priory Club.

The 2022 Birmingham Classic will be Raducanu’s third British senior tournament — having only previously played at the Nottingham Open and Wimbledon.

It was at the Nottingham Open where Raducanu made her first ever WTA Tour appearance. She entered the main draw as a wildcard entrant but lost in the first round to compatriot Harriet Dart.

Despite her early exit, there was already a lot of buzz around the young starlet. The Brit then made her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon, also via wildcard entry.

Raducanu hit the ground running at the All England Tennis Club, defeating Vitalia Diatchenko, Markéta Vondroušová, and Sorana Cîrstea to reach the fourth round of the tournament.

At 18 years and 239 days old, she became the youngest British woman in Open Era history to reach the last 16 at Wimbledon.

Sadly for the plucky teenager, she was forced to withdraw due to breathing difficulties, leaving the nation wondering just how far she would have made it in her first ever Grand Slam.

Since then, she has made history at the US Open by becoming the first qualifier to win a Slam title and skyrocketed through the world rankings. Raducanu made the astronomical leap from 338th to 22nd in just three months and she is now the British number one and ranked 12th overall in the world.
