Five superstars Manchester United could start negotiating with in January to save millions

The signings of Mason Mount, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Altay Bayindir and a loan move for Sofyan Amrabat have taken Erik ten Hag's spending well over £400m since he took charge at Old Trafford just over a year ago. But United have made an uninspiring start to the season.

A near-unprecedented number of players unavailable due to injury or off-the-field issues has hamstrung the side but even when nearly everyone was available they have been flat and frail. They have already lost four matches and the three wins they have managed were all against relegation contenders and they were still only narrow.

Given United's spending, they may welcome the chance to sign some bargains over the next year, especially as they fight to remain within FFP boundaries. As they discovered with the additions of Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans, some diamonds can be found in the rough of the free agent market.
