Man arrested as police launch investigation into death of woman found unconscious at roadside

A woman who was found unconscious at the side of a road has died. Police have launched a major investigation and believe she was struck by a vehicle.

Police were alerted at 2.08am on Sunday September 24th that the woman had been found at the roadside on Padgbury Lane in Congleton. Officers and ambulance attended and the woman – aged 35 and from the Congleton area – was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital, where she sadly died. Her next of kin have been informed.

Cheshire Constabulary said: "An investigation into the circumstances has been launched and, at this time, it is believed the woman may have been struck by a vehicle. A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident."

Detective Inspector David Hutcheon said: “This is obviously an extremely serious incident. The investigation is in its early stages and we are following a number of lines of enquiry. While it took place in the early hours of the morning, I would ask anyone who was driving through the area at that time, or who lives nearby and may have seen or heard something, to get in touch.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid the investigation ”
