Five Manchester United players set to return from injury in January

Manchester United are set to travel to Nottingham Forest with the same squad that secured a coruscating comeback win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

However, United manager Erik ten Hag expects to have up to five players back from long-term injury in mid-January when United could only have a maximum of three games.

Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount are all scheduled to be available for the Premier League game against Wolves on February 1.

"To start with last: I don't think so," Ten Hag said of the Forest match. "It will be a similar squad as we had against Villa.

"Mid-January we expect many players back. Mason, Casemiro, Martinez, Malacia, so we expect Harry Maguire, of course. We expect many players to return in January."

Malacia has required two rounds of surgery on his knee that have kept him sidelined since July, Martinez has been out with a metatarsal problem since September, Casemiro last played on November 1 with a hamstring problem, Mason Mount sustained a calf injury last month and Harry Maguire has missed the last three games with a groin strain.

Anthony Martial (ill) and Victor Lindelof (groin) are also still out for United's last match of the calendar year at Forest.

United head to Wigan in the FA Cup third round on January 8 but only play once in the Premier League next month - against Tottenham on January 14. Any FA Cup fourth round tie would also be held in the last weekend of January.

Forest changed sacked Steve Cooper as manager earlier this month and have already recorded an impressive win under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo
