Five transfers Manchester United could target in striker search

Since the season got under way, one repeat topic at Manchester United is the lack of goals.

Rasmus Hojlund was one of few silver linings that came from the heavy cloud that was Manchester United’s Champions League campaign, chipping in with five goals in six games. But that is as promising as United’s striker situation has got this season.

Marcus Rashford has scored on three occasions in the league and Anthony Martial twice. Hojlund finally broke his domestic duck against Aston Villa on Boxing Day but after missing a raft on chances against Wigan in the third round of the FA Cup, he cannot nor should not, carry the goal burden alone. The question is who could United sign this window to help ease some of their issues?

The 27-year-old striker plies his trade for Stuttgart in Germany and has represented the Guinea national team. So far this season the 6ft 2in striker has 17 goals and one assist in the Bundesliga and is reported to be available for £17.25million in the current transfer window. At 27 he would offer more experience that Rasmus Hojlund and could prove to be a practical and a wise buy.

A striker United previously looked at during his time at Juventus who has since moved onto Jose Mourinho’s Roma. Has a reported release clause of £12million and would offer a different option in the final third aside from plenty of top level experience.
