Five Manchester United players have points to prove vs Wolves

While Manchester United will hope to send an early warning to their rivals with a convincing win over Wolves, there will be several players also hoping to catch Erik ten Hag’s eye in the season opener.

United are preparing to start their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford on Monday night, following a busy pre-season period. The summer has seen three new arrivals and with the transfer window remaining open a little longer some players will be aiming to lock down a spot in the team.

As for the new arrivals, they will be looking to make a good first impression. That is certainly true for Mason Mount. The midfielder was the first player through the door this summer, with the excitement around his signing subsequently overtaken by Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund. However, the former Chelsea man is a dynamic addition to United’s midfield, with his work-rate and versatility making him an ideal fit for Ten Hag’s side.

Mount’s performances during pre-season may not have grabbed the headlines but he will be eager to prove that United were right to fork out £60million, despite a frustrating final season at Stamford Bridge. If Ten Hag is able to help Mount rediscover his best form, he may quickly become a fan-favourite.

The same is true of Onana. Fresh from helping guide Inter Milan to the Champions League final, United identified the Cameroon international as the right player to succeed David de Gea as the club’s number one.
