Fitrite Fencing & Decking increase wages to help with cost of living crisis

A Yorkshire-based firm, Fitrite Fencing & Decking, announced it will give all its employees an extra £1,000 to help with the soaring energy costs.

Due to an increase in demand, households are facing a huge increase in their energy prices - with costs rapidly increasing since the second half of 2021 and monthly increases both gas and electricity prices meeting an all-time high since 1988.

Many consumers were initially protected by the energy price cap before a 54% increase in April 2022, but the cap is increasing further as time goes on.

While gas prices were falling, with the average bill for 2020 being £575 compared to almost £700 in 2014, electricity prices have been increasing over the last decade. Average electricity bills were £760 in 2021, compared to £450 in 2020 - a whopping 36% increase.

Plus, average heating oil prices increased from just over 20p a litre at the start of 2020, to almost 60% a litre by mid-October 2021.

To help its employees with the daunting future, Fitrite Fencing & Decking, which is based in Doncaster, has provided an increase in all staff wages to help combat rising heating, food and fuel bills.

Fitrite has been in business for more than 25 years, providing a cost-effective decking option. The long-lasting, slip-resistant and water-resistant uPVC decking is designed to provide greater durability to your outdoor living space, with the unique fitting system guaranteeing the decking will stand the tests of time.

From May 1, 2022, every Fitrite employee benefited from a £1,000 ex gratia payment which will hopefully cover, if not go a long way towards, the extra cost of living that everyone is facing.

A spokesperson for Fitrite took to LinkedIn to announce the news: “We don’t want any of our
