Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather: UFC & boxing legends' awkward 2017 airport meet

The build-up to the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor bout in 2017 had everything.

From hilariously entertaining press conferences to public insults and even a chance meeting at an airport.

The two took part in a fight which earned the second-highest pay-per-view rate in history due to the rivalry that the fighters had built up.

McGregor had stepped out of the Octagon and into the boxing ring, hoping to provide a monumental shock.

The American Mayweather retired in 2015 after an incredible career where he had become a five-weight world champion and amassed a record of 49-0.

Rumours began to circulate in early 2016 and the fight was finally announced the following year.

There was pure intrigue from boxing experts and fans alike to see if the UFC’s biggest draw could handle himself against possibly the greatest boxer of all time.

The Irishman was no novice to big fights, though, as he was a two-division world champion in the UFC, while achieving a 21-3 record.

American broadcasters Showtime gave fans an interesting insight into the build-up to the encounter with an all-access series.

It followed the press tour that the rivals had to embark on and it even managed to capture footage of a revealing moment at an airport.

The two stars were both catching a flight and McGregor entered the terminal as Mayweather was waiting around with his family.

The now 45-year-old Mayweather attempts to get under the Irishman’s skin as McGregor walks through the terminal.

He says: “What’s up? What’s up little dude? What’s up little dude? You alright?”

The Notorious appears to ignore his opponent, but he makes his feelings known afterwards as he walks towards the plane.
