First Division wrap: Relentless Galway United hit Bray Wanderers for six
Galway United relentless early pace in the race for automatic promotion from the SSE Airtricity League First Division continued unabated as they made it nine wins from nine with a 6-0 thrashing of Bray Wanderers at Eamonn Deacy Park.
In what was a battle between first and second when the match kicked off, John Caulfield's side were three goals up by the half-hour mark after goals from Killian Brouder, Vincent Borden and David Hurley.
Borden scored his second on 65 minutes to make it 4-0 before Mikie Rowe and Ibrahim Keita added further gloss to the scoreline.
Waterford maintained their winning momentum since Keith Long took charge with a narrow 1-0 win over Kerry to go second in the table above Bray, ten points adrift of Galway.
Ronan Coughlan broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to go at the RSC to settle the game in the hosts' favour with newcomers Kerry remaining bottom with two points.
Athlone Town moved to within a point of fourth-placed Cobh Ramblers with a 2-0 home win courtesy of goals from Valeriy Dolya and Adam Lennon in the second half.
In Ballybofey, goals in each half saw Finn Harps go sixth with a 2-0 win over visiting Treaty United, with Ryan Rainey and Filip Da Silva on target.
