Manchester United loanee Amad recognised for sensational Sunderland season as he scoops award
Manchester United loanee Amad has been named Sunderland Supporters' Young Player of the Year at the club's end of seasons awards.
Amad, 20, has scored 12 goals and assisted a further three for teammates across 35 appearances in the Championship this season. The winger was also up for the division's Young Player of the Year accolade at the EFL Awards Ceremony, but missed out to Bristol City teenager Alex Scott, which led Amad to ask afterwards: “Young player, who?”
A lack of league-wide recognition has now been made up for by those that watch the Ivory Coast international at the Stadium of Light. Amad also previously won the Championship's December Player of the Month award after scoring three goals across five games at the end of 2022.

In announcing the accolade, Sunderland emphasised Amad has become an integral part of head coach Tony Mowbray’s team and provided plenty of magical moments this season. Such performances have left United supporters anticipating the youngster's return to Old Trafford this summer and have increased excitement at the prospect of the Ivorian adding another element out wide for Erik ten Hag's side.
The club's pre-season tour of the United States will offer Amad an opportunity to further impress back in a United shirt. The Manchester Evening News understands manager Erik ten Hag is open to including Amad in the first-team squad next season after being pleased with the player's development.
Provisional plans to let Anthony Elanga leave permanently and loan Facundo Pellistri out on loan elsewhere in the Premier League this summer would seem to open up space for Amad in the senior set-up.
