First Arsenal exit nearing completion as talks ‘accelerate’ for €15m Torreira windfall

Lucas Torreira could be about to end his association with Arsenal, as loan club Fiorentina are ready to ramp up negotiations for a permanent transfer.

Torreira signed for Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018, staying for two seasons. He made 89 appearances in that time, but was allowed to leave in 2020. He first endured a frustrating season on loan at Atletico Madrid – with whom he won La Liga as a bit-part player.

Then, for the current campaign, he returned to Serie A to feature for Fiorentina. The move back to Italian football has benefitted the Uruguay international.

This season, Torreira has made 29 appearances in Serie A, all but four of which have been starts. He has started more league matches than any season since last time he was in Italy, with Sampdoria back in 2017-18.

As such, there has been a feeling for a while that Torreira will make his move to Fiorentina permanent. The fact that his Arsenal contract only runs until 2023 means such a deal makes sense for all parties.

And according to Corriere Dello Sport, Fiorentina are now ready to ‘accelerate’ their attempts to keep Torreira for the long-term.

They are willing to give the 26-year-old a four-year contract to remain in Florence. To do so, they must buy him from Arsenal, which should cost them around €15million (£12.6m).
