Fire breaks out near Beetham Tower in Manchester with Hilton Hotel evacuated
A city centre hotel was evacuated after a skip was set alight in its loading bay. The drama unfolded at the iconic Beetham Tower on Deansgate in the city centre shortly before 6:30pm this evening.
Video from the scene showed bright orange flames lapping out of the skip on Trafford Street with smoke being sent billowing out over the area.
The Hilton hotel housed within the building was evacuated as fire crews raced to the scene. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and no one was hurt.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "This evening, around 18.20, a skip was set alight in the loading bay of the Beetham Tower in central Manchester.
"It was a small fire which was rapidly brought under control by firefighters from Moss Side fire station. The fire has been extinguished and there are no injuries."
A spokesperson for the Hilton confirmed it was evacuated but said all guests and staff were now safely back inside.
