Everton boss Sean Dyche confirms huge injury blow ahead of Man City clash

Seamus Coleman has undergone an operation on a knee injury and will not be back in action this season for Everton, boss Sean Dyche has confirmed ahead of the clash against Manchester City.

The veteran defender had to be stretchered off for the Toffees during the 2-2 draw against Leicester City. Despite the concern at being taken off the pitch, the 34-year-old confirmed on social media that he has not suffered ACL damage.

Next up for Everton are City, who are at the summit of the top flight by a point ahead of title rivals Arsenal. Pep Guardiola's side also have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta's oufit and are in pole position to retain their title.

When these two sides last met at the Etihad Stadium at the end of December, the Toffees shocked their hosts by coming from behind to claim a point against Guardiola's men. Demarai Gray netted after the break to stun the Etihad and cancel out Erling Haaland's first half opener.

Coleman missed the 5-1 victory on the road against Brighton & Hove Albion and has also had an operation on the knee injury. Speaking ahead of the encounter against City at a pre-match press conference, Everton boss Dyche confirmed the procedure was a success and that the recovery should be 'straightforward' but the defender will not be back in action now until next season.

Dyche said: "He did have an operation. It's straightforward in terms of the medical side of things. I don't know the official way they have treated it, but apparently it has gone really well. When they got in there, it was as expected so should be a straightforward recovery. All being well he should be fit for next season."
