FC Copenhagen manager sends Manchester United warning ahead of Champions League tie

FC Copenhagen head coach Jacob Neestrup has warned his players they must expect to defend heavily against Manchester United this evening if they wish to get the right result.

The Reds' start in the Champions League has been underwhelming. United have lost their opening two group stage matches, the most recent coming at home to Galatasaray.

These results have left United bottom of Group A and staring directly at an early exit. Tonight's visitors sit third in the group having accumulated one point but Neestrup has warned his players not to expect to dominate the ball in Manchester.

He said: "We have to get a result tomorrow, whether they’ve won their last 10 matches or been up and down like they have been in the last couple of months. We have to play our game.

"There will be times when we have to defend heavily and we are ready for that but we also have to get on the ball, play with patience and make sure we keep the ball. We plan to take risks at the right times."

United have announced they will be paying tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton at tonight's game, the first home fixture since the legendary midfielder's death on Saturday. Reflecting on Charlton's passing, Neestrup added: "He was a great player for England and Manchester United for many, many years, and after his playing career he was a big influence on Manchester United. We as a team and players want to honour him in the stadium tomorrow."
