Faversham Town manager Steve Watt says the club are ready for the next level - he just has to get them there
Faversham Town boss Steve Watt is loving life back in management after his two-year break from the game.
Watt took his first training session since being appointed Tommy Warrilow’s successor when Town reported for pre-season at the weekend.
He spent the final four games of last season helping out caretaker manager Frannie Collin, who has since become assistant boss to Watt at Salters Lane.
It’s been a productive summer, with the likes of Josh Hare, Jack Evans and Ibrahim Olutade among the new faces, and Watt, who left his last job as Hythe boss in the final weeks of the 23/24 campaign, is firmly back in the groove.
“I’m really pleased to be back,” said Watt.
“If anything, I didn’t want last season to finish because, one, I knew I might not get the job, and, two, we just wanted to keep building on what we were doing.
“It’s good to be back out on the pitch, planning sessions, being in the dressing room with the boys and building a team, all those things you miss.
“I know we’ve not had to build a team from scratch this year, because we had players left over, but we’ve still had to rebuild a team and put the pieces together, and work out how it’s going to look, which we’ll go into more as pre-season goes on.
“I was never going to come back into any job - it had to be the right job.
“If you’d asked me before, would Faversham be one of the ones I’d come back for if they picked up the phone, the answer would be yes, I wouldn’t have to think about it.
“It’s a good club, with good people, and good ambitions.
“It ticked every box to come back. It’s got everything you want.
“It’s a club that’s ready for the next level – we just need to get it there.
