Faversham Town caretaker boss Frannie Collin on back-to-back wins, latest in their involvement in the Isthmian South East play-off race and prospect of him permanently taking role
Caretaker manager Frannie Collin was always confident he would get a positive reaction out of Faversham Town’s players.
Town have won their first two games under Collin to close in on the Isthmian South East play-off positions again after the club sacked Tommy Warrilow this month.
They backed up a 3-0 success over out-of-form Sheppey United with last weekend’s 2-0 victory at relegated East Grinstead.
But there will be tougher tests in store with this Saturday’s trip to Sevenoaks followed by a home game with champions Three Bridges to end the regular campaign.
“My relationship with Tommy, I’ve known him for so long and he did a brilliant job at the club,” said former Maidstone United, Margate, Hythe and Ashford man Collin.
“No one could ever take that away from him.
“The reason why I thought I could take it on is because I know the boys. I know a lot of them, personally, and was hoping to get the reaction we have had.
“I’m pleased I have got that reaction. If I’m being honest, I expected it because there are some good players but some good characters, as well.
“It could have gone the other way - fortunately, it hasn’t - so, obviously, I’m delighted.”
Collin has been limited to just a handful of appearances this term after picking up a long-term injury in the FA Cup match at Ebbsfleet in September.
His caretaker reign has had the desired impact. But having been asked to take charge for the Lilywhites’ season run-in by chairman Gary Smart, the 38-year-old is yet to look any further ahead.
He said: “When the chairman asked me to take over for the remaining games, it was ‘Take the four games, see how it goes’.
“Let’s see if I enjoy it, firstly, and if I get a reaction out of the players. So far, so good.
