'Fatalities' confirmed and five in hospital after 'head-on collision' involving motorbike, bus and car

Five people have been taken to hospital and there are said to have been 'fatalities' after a collision involving a motorbike, car and a bus in Rhondda Cynon Taf on Monday, December 11. South Wales Police said emergency services were at the scene of a "serious incident" in Elwyn Street in Coedely, Tonyrefail, which was closed. The road was expected to be closed until the morning.

In a statement on social media at 7.41pm, South Wales Police said: "Emergency services are at Elwyn Street, Coedely in Tonyrefail dealing with a serious incident. The road will be closed for some time and there is traffic build up on the A4119. Please use an alternative route, Thank you for your patience."

At around 8pm, the Welsh Ambulance Service control room confirmed to WalesOnline the incident involved a motorbike and a bus. A spokesperson said: "We've got confirmation of an incident - an RTC [road traffic collision] was reported [involving] a bike and a bus at 7pm today." The spokesperson added that it was a head-on collision, the incident was still ongoing and it was a motorbike that was involved.

The control room later confirmed a car was also involved in the collision, and said there were "fatalities involved". The spokesperson added that four casualties had been taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, and a fifth had been taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Talbot Green.

Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd, said the road was expected to be closed until the morning. She said in a statement on Facebook: "Elwyn Street, Coedely, near the Stowford Caravan site is currently closed while emergency services attend a serious incident.
