Fan’s Eye View: Gillingham get the win they needed against Morecambe as fans raise the roof at Priestfield Stadium

Saturday's home game with Morecambe finally brought an end to our long wait for a win.
It was a game most Gillingham fans felt was a 'must win' to avoid being dragged into an unthinkable fight to avoid relegation.
I felt that it was vital to widen the gap between Gillingham and the bottom sides, so I issued a plea on behalf of the Gillingham FC Supporters' Club for all fans to get behind the team right from the pre-match warm-up through to the final whistle.
It was fantastic to see the response as we finally got the three points that our performance deserved.
The noise from three sides of the ground was amazing and I'm sure that helped the players keep going, even though it had started to look as though another goalless draw might be the final score.
While Morecambe barely got a sniff and never really threatened, a succession of shots from Nevitt, Gbode, Little and latterly from Ehmer all failed to hit the target with 'our own' Joe Gbode being denied as his rasping drive was tipped over the bar by visiting keeper Burgoyne.
I felt that John Coleman's decision to bring on Jimmy Morgan for Ollie Hawkins was the right move as we continued to press for the all-important goal.
Hawkins had battled tirelessly as ever in leading the line, but Morgan added more zip and made the front three even more mobile as Gills ramped up the pressure. It was the ever-dependable Robbie McKenzie who finally came good as his shot from the edge of the box appeared to take a huge deflection off Morgan before hitting the net to thunderous applause from the Rainham End.
It was also pretty riotous in the Medway Stand where I sit behind the dugouts and the scenes on the two benches were a huge contrast.
