Family ditch UK and buy one-way ticket to live in country 5,000 miles away

A British family say they ditched the 'rat race' in the UK for a 'simpler life' in Costa Rica. Naomi, 31, and Johnathan Jules, 30, made the bold decision to uproot from the UK when their daughter was just two years old.

The couple sold their three-bedroom semi-detached property in Darlington, County Durham, for £215,000 and jetted off to Guanacaste, Costa Rica, for a new adventure - with one-way tickets in hand.

Now, they say they are enjoying a more affordable lifestyle in a two-bedroom apartment complete with a swimming pool, costing them £900 per month including bills - saving £330 a month compared to their previous expenses back home.

The family say they sought a life that 'isn't materialistically driven' and are embracing their new found life filled with sun outdoor activities. Their young daughter is set to attend a jungle school when she is old enough, while beach visits and market trips have become part of their daily routine.

Naomi, who is taking a career break from her role as a health and safety officer, shared: "I have wanted to do this for years but my husband wasn't always on board.

"We have been raised to go to school, college, university and then onto jobs. I am a free thinking person and I haven't been happy in this system that we have been brought up in. had a goal to get out of the UK and when I got pregnant that feeling intensified."

The mum-of-one continued: "I told my husband that by the time our daughter was three we were leaving the UK. Life is so simple over here which is what we wanted - it is not driven by fancy cars or money. It is not materialistically driven, which is lovely.
