American tries British fish and chips for first time – and makes one big 'error'

Most of us Brits have a soft spot for the quintessential chippy tea.

Despite being commonplace here, many Americans living in the UK haven't had the pleasure of tasting this iconic dish.

TikTok user Bella, known online as @bellas. bites, was one such individual that is, until recently.

The young brunette, who has been on a journey sampling various British delicacies since arriving in the UK, shared her inaugural experience of fish and chips with her followers. What caused a stir among viewers wasn't just her review, but rather the unconventional way she ate her meal.

Bella's viral TikTok video, which has garnered 47,000 likes, kicks off with her showcasing her fish and chips purchase to her audience saying: "Hey, we got a chippy... is that what it's called? Fish and chips?"

She proceeds to tear into the batter-coated fish and dip it into tartare sauce, mentioning she traveled "kind of far" to get her meal, worrying it "might not be super-crispy". Upon tasting, Bella responds with: "Mmm... okay."

She then scoops up a handful of chips, which she refers to as "fries", noting they're seasoned with salt and vinegar. Next, she tackles the mushy peas with a spoon.

Returning to the fish, she continues eating it with her hands, declaring it to be "good". In a surprising twist, she then dips her fish into a pot of baked beans.

She confessed she 'needed a bit more salt for her American tastebuds' but described the meal as "good". On the subject of baked beans, she added: "I do like your guys' beans especially with cheese on top."

Concluding her assessment of the fish and chips, she remarked: "It's okay, it just needs more salt."
