Fears as former Manchester student, 27, disappears in Thailand after phone 'detected in Bangkok'

A former University of Manchester student has disappeared after a trip in Thailand, his family and friends have announced.

Simon Robinson, 27, who is from Skegness, Lincolnshire, was due to fly back to the United Kingdom on July 26, and was set to board the plane at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.

His phone was detected in Bangkok, but was switched off with no attempts made to contact friends or family. His sister Sarah has told the M.E.N is now being investigated that he may have caught a flight to Helsinki instead of back to the UK.

Worried family and friends said they have contacted the British Embassy in Bangkok to help find Simon's whereabouts. However, with no progress on the case, they have turned to social media to appeal for help.

Sister Sarah Robinson-Dale said she was 'going out of her mind' with worry. She said on Sunday (August 4) that the family were waiting to hear from Interpol and speak to the embassy.

Sam Champ a friend of Simon's, said they were especially worried after Simon's 27th birthday came and went on August 1 with no news. Posting a picture of Simon online in an appeal on August 2, Sam wrote: "One of my dear friends has gone missing in Bangkok, he hasn't been heard from since the 26th of July.

"He was supposed to board a flight that day and he didn't show up. It was his 27th birthday yesterday and everyone is growing very concerned. He has been reported as a missing person."

"I've attached a picture of him, his name is Simon Robinson and he's from Lincolnshire. If anyone could share this post onward to anyone in Bangkok or Thailand I'd be so grateful."
