Fabio Vieira responds to his ruthless nickname also given to Man Utd legend Gary Neville
Fabio Vieira has yet to make his Arsenal bow, but he’s already settled into the Gunners dressing room, with his team-mates quickly giving him a brutal new nickname.
The Portuguese midfielder signed from FC Porto earlier this summer, adding to Mikel Arteta’s creative options for the upcoming season. But he has thus far not been able to appear for his new side after picking up an injury on international duty.
Vieira is with his new colleagues in America however and could yet make his debut in the upcoming friendlies with Orlando City and Chelsea. It’s valuable bonding time whether he’s playing or not and he’s admitted that Nuno Tavarez has already given him a nickname he shares with Manchester United legend Gary Neville.
“He says I look like T-Bag from Prison Break,” he said during an interview with the Athletic. “Oh my god, he calls me that all the time! He’s always joking with me.” Asked if he agreed, he replied: “More or less!”
Theodore Bagwell, or T-Bag, was one of the main characters of the hit drama Prison Break. Played by Robert Knepper, T-Bag carried out a series of violent crimes and was one of the main villains throughout it’s five-season run.
And Vieira shares the nickname with Sky Sports’ Neville, who revealed that Wayne Rooney used to call him it throughout the pair’s time at Old Trafford. Whilst interviewing Declan Rice on his Overlap YouTube channel earlier this year, the West Ham and England midfielder said his favourite TV show was Prison Break.
"You're gonna come up with the joke about me now, aren't you? Do you know they call me T-Bag?" Neville replied: "Yeah, Rooney called me that for years."
The former Derby boss then tweeted: "We call @GNev2 T-Bag because he is a ringer of T-Bag in Prison
